CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Active COVID-19 cases in West Virignia continued to fall in Friday’s report by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR).
The DHHR totaled 6,144 active cases as of Friday, a drop from 6,318 on Thursday, which is the lowest total since 6,135 on November 5. The DHHR added 287 cases in the past 24 hours from Thursday.
This active COVID-19 case figure has been lowering since early January when the state had nearly 30,000 active cases.
The daily positivity test rate lowered slightly from Thursday’s 2.69% to 2.51% on Friday.
After reporting zero deaths on Thursday, the DHHR confirmed nine on Friday. Deaths include that of an 86-year old female from Logan County, an 83-year old female from Webster County, a 76-year old female from Monroe County, an 84-year old female from Raleigh County, a 62-year old male from Wyoming County, a 71-year old male from Jefferson County, a 68-year old male from Monroe County, a 60-year old female from Jefferson County, and a 93-year old female from Wood County.
Hospitalizations due to the virus sit at 200, up seven from Thursday. There are 55 patients in the ICU due to the virus, down two from Thursday.
208,994 West Virignia citizens have been fully vaccinated from the virus. 323,811 total number of first doses have been administered.
