Two dead in Hampshire County collision

ROMNEY, W.Va. — State Police say a head on collision in Hampshire County has claimed the lives of two individuals and left a third hospitalized.

Troopers say the pickup truck crossed the center line and collided with a semi on U.S. Route 50 near the intersection with U.S. Route 220 Thursday morning.

Dead is the driver of the pickup, Carl Davis, 62, of New Creek, W.Va. along with passenger Lucas Gillaspie, 39, of Keyser, W.Va. A third person in the pickup truck, Michael Smith, 45, of Keyser, W.Va. remains hospitalized at Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was transported by the Maryland State Police helicopter.

The operator of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The wreck remained under investigation.
