CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee approved Monday a resolution limiting constitutional officers to three consecutive terms in office.

State Treasurer Riley Moore has pushed Senate Joint Resolution 11, which would prevent anyone from serving as secretary of state, auditor, treasurer, agriculture commissioner or attorney general for more than 12 straight years.

The office of governor is limited to two consecutive terms.

Because the resolution would change the West Virginia Constitution, two-thirds of the Senate and House of Delegates would have to approve the proposal.

The Senate Finance Committee will next consider the measure.
