Cameron improves to 8-1 with 66-35 win at Clay-Battelle

BLACKSVILLE, W.Va. — A 21-point third quarter helped the Cameron Dragons pull away from Clay-Battelle to win 66-35 Monday night at CBHS. Cameron shook off a slow offensive start in the opening minutes to build a 30-17 halftime lead.

“We were a little flat in the first quarter,” said Cameron head coach Holly Pettit. “Monday games are always tough. We had a really tough game Saturday and they were off yesterday. In between quarters, I told them that they had to step up their defense, box out and move the ball a lot more on offense.”

Cameron freshman forward Ashlynn VanTassell led all scorers with 22 points.

“She sees the floor really well and runs the floor really well. She gets open and has really nice moves to the basket. So this was a typical night for her. She is definitely doing a great job.”

Senior guard Lili Neely added 21 points for the Dragons. Cameron improved to 8-1 at the midway point of their regular season.

“I had high expectations for the girls. I think we are still not clicking on all cylinders. We still haven’t hit the peak yet, which is okay because we want to do that later in the season.”

Alivia Ammons led the Cee-Bees (5-3) with 11 points.
