CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The pandemic created a windfall for traditional games for the West Virginia Lottery.
Members of the West Virginia Lottery Commission learned during Wednesday’s teleconference meeting the traditional game sales for February were $17.2 Million, instant sales were $12 Million, and the February draw games generated $5 Million in sales. Year to Date all three of those areas have sales up 25 percent from this time a year ago.
“Ever since the pandemic started, ticket sales have been up and that’s been sustaining,” said Lottery Marketing Director Danielle Snidow in a report to Commissioners.
Snidow said her team has also worked to capitalize on the jump in popularity of the ticket and traditional games. They’ve increased social media activity to raise awareness of the games. She said they have also partnered with traditional lottery retailers to increase those sales along with normal advertising and it has all been successful.
“It’s gone up since the pandemic and has sustained itself over time,” she said.
Despite the success of ticket games and draw games, the overall the Lottery revenue continued to lag behind this point in fiscal year 2020. As of February, the year to date revenues overall were down by $19.3 Million.
