COVID-19 hospitalizations climbing back toward 300 mark

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed 453 new COVID-19 cases in Saturday’s report.

Active cases are now at 6,754. The daily positivity test rate in Saturday’s report was 3.67%.

The state also reported five additional COVID-19 deaths including a 63-year old male from Fayette County, a 74-year old male from Taylor County, a 45-year old female from Logan County, an 88-year old male from Kanawha County and an 89-year old male from Brooke County.

“I believe brighter days are ahead for West Virginia,” state DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch said. “We must continue to work together to prevent further loss of loved ones due to COVID-19.”

Overall deaths in West Virginia are now at 2,693.

Hospitalizations continue to climb. They were at 259 Saturday which represents the highest since 267 people were hospitalized with the virus on Feb. 26.
