Active COVID-19 cases near 7,000 again

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia is once again nearing 7,000 active cases of COVID-19.

Information released Thursday morning by the state Department of Health and Human Resources shows 6,981 active cases. The last time the state was at 7,000 active cases was at the end of February.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources also confirmed 13 additional COVID-19 deaths Thursday including an 86-year old female from Morgan County, a 71-year old male from Marshall County, an 84-year old male from Morgan County, a 71-year old female from Harrison County, a 67-year old female from Putnam County, a 91-year old male from Barbour County, a 62-year old female from Ohio County, a 76-year old female from Putnam County, a 49-year old female from Berkeley County, an 83-year old female from Grant County, an 81-year old female from Harrison County, an 82-year old female from Putnam County, and an 81-year old female from Pendleton County.

“Our hearts go out to these West Virginians and their families,” state DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch said. “Let’s continue taking every precaution we can to stop the spread of this disease.”

Total deaths are now at 2,735.

Hospitalizations were down slightly Thursday at 267.

Nearly 370,000 state residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
