Steady case climb continues in W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s Covid positivity rate for Saturday was 4.16 percent. The agency reported 455 new cases which pushed the active case numbers in West Virginia to 7206.

There were 271 people hospitalized with the virus in Saturday report, the most since late February, 82 of those individuals were in Intensive care units.

Five more fatalities were reported. They included a 74-year old female from Kanawha County, a 62-year old female from Ohio County, a 65-year old female from Taylor County, a 66-year old female from Kanawha County, and a 73-year old female from Harrison County.

The daily alert map showed three counties in red for Saturday; Berkeley, Boone, and Raleigh Counties. Using alternative metrics Clay, Fayette, Grant, Jackson, Kanawha, and Mingo would also be red.

Vaccination continues across the state. Health officials say 451,677 West Virginians have been fully vaccinated for the virus.
