Active cases drop below 7000 in W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va.— There are 177 new cases of Covid 19 reported in West Virginia today. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported the cases among 6,965 active cases today in the Mountain State. It’s the first time active cases dropped below 7,000 since April 7th.

The state had three more fatalities added today. All three were men; a 56-year old male from Berkeley County, a 57-year old male from Mineral County, and a 47-year old male from Mercer County. The death toll overall for the state is 2,662 and reflects a reduction in the total after 162 deaths initially blamed on Covid 19 turned out to be a result of other causes after a review of death certificates.

The state’s daily positivity rate was 4.66 percent. There are 224 people still hospitalized with Covid.

Three counties are red on the daily alert map; Raleigh, Wetzel, and Berkeley Counties. Under alternative metrics, Greenbrier, Hardy, and McDowell Counties would also be in the red category reflecting the highest level of transmission.

The state reports a total of 561,927 West Virginians have been fully vaccinated. 701,815 have received their first covid shot.
