DHHR: Active COVID-19 cases continue recent drop

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state continued to show a modest drop in active COVID-19 case numbers released Wednesday by the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

There are now 6,716 active cases, the lowest number in the last five weeks. The DHHR did confirm 340 new cases in Wednesday’s report.

The agency also reported 14 new deaths Wednesday including a 62-year old male from Putnam County, a 91-year old female from Monongalia County, a 55-year old male from Monongalia County, a 72-year old male from Berkeley County, a 71-year old female from Marion County, an 84-year old male from Raleigh County, a 44-year old male from Mercer County, a 58-year old female from Mineral County, a 59-year old male from Ohio County, an 86-year old female from Wood County, a 40-year old male from Harrison County, an 80-year old male from Ohio County, an 88-year old female from Wetzel County, and a 97-year old male from Pendleton County.

Overall COVID-19 deaths have risen to 2,748.

According to the state DHHR COVID-19 dashboard, 45.7% over the state’s overall population has received one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 38.2% have been fully vaccinated. The numbers show 71.6% of the state’s 65 and older population have been fully vaccinated. That percentage falls to 46.4% when considering those 16 and older.
