WEIRTON, W.Va. — Weirton High School leaders have agreed to keep its Red Rider name and mascot but change the logo following pushback about how the imagery depicted Native Americans.

Officials began removing the logo last week, announcing a more traditionalized version of the mascot will be used going forward.

The recently-used imagery depicted Native Americans in a cartoonish manner with a red face holding a weapon.
