Martinsburg Council set to work more on proposed zoning rewrite

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A meeting focused on the much-talked-about proposal that rewrites the City of Martinsburg’s zoning ordinance is scheduled for Monday evening.

Martinsburg Mayor Harriet Johnson

Martinsburg City Council as a Committee of the Whole meeting beginning at 5 p.m.

Mayor Harriet Johnson told the Panhandle News Network the document is currently a “working draft.”

“This doesn’t mean that everything is going to be or isn’t going to be,” Johnson said. “This is going to be a city council decision. I’ve heard both sides.”.

Work began on the new ordinance back in 2018. It hasn’t been reworked since the 1970s.

If Martinsburg Council decides to move forward, a proposed ordinance could get its official readings as soon as next month.
