DHHR: COVID active cases drop toward 4,000

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There are now 4,084 active cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia.

The state Division of Health and Human reported the drop in cases Thursday. The agency added 144 cases but that was offset by more than 200 recovered cases.

There are now 183 COVID-19 patients in West Virginia hospitals. That’s the lowest number of patients since mid-March.

The DHHR did report seven additional COVID-19 deaths including a 75-year old female from Monongalia County, a 69-year old female from Tyler County, a 66-year old male from Raleigh County, a 67-year old male from Harrison County, a 61-year old male from Tyler County, a 64-year old female from Harrison County, and a 49-year old male from Raleigh County.

Total deaths are now at 2,807.

The federal Centers for Disease Control reports more than 918,000 of state residents 12 and older have been fully vaccinated against the virus, which is 59% of the eligible participants.
