Morgantown extends their season with a win over Wheeling Park

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown extended their season with an 8-0 victory over Wheeling Park in a Class AAA Region I, Section 1 elimination game Thursday evening at Mylan Park.

Lillian Kooser went the distance in the circle for MHS (16-5). She scattered five hits over five innings and did not walk a batter.

Breonna Marietta led the Mohigans at the plate. She went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and she connected for a two-run home run Morgantown’s three-run first inning. Grace Haines also had a multi-hit game for MHS.

After their three-run opening frame, Morgantown added four more runs in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. With two out in the fifth, Emily Petersson’s RBI single scored Ava Biafore to put the run rule in effect.

The Mohigans enter the championship round Friday, needing two wins over John Marshall to advance to the regional tournament. The Monarchs defeated Morgantown 5-1 on Wednesday in the winners bracket final. First pitch Friday is set for 4 p.m. If necessary, a second game will follow Friday night.

Makenna Kelly went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles for the Patriots.
