DHHR reports COVID hospitalizations down to August 2020 levels

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Hospitalizations associated with COVID-19 are at their lowest number in West Virginia in nearly 10 months.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported Thursday that hospitalizations are now at 133 patients, the last time they were that low was Aug. 18,2020.

The DHHR confirmed 119 new COVID cases Thursday and two additional deaths, a 93-year old female from Harrison County and a 61-year old male from Randolph County.

There were 24 deaths added Wednesday, the DHHR said most of those were COVID deaths from April and May that weren’t originally reported as COVID deaths.

Vaccination numbers remained steady in Thursday’s report. More than 52% of the state’s overall population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Sixty-percent of residents 12 and older have received at least one shot, 48.7% of those 12 and older have been fully vaccinated.
