Woman arrested after allegedly breaking into homes in Logan County

HEWETT, W.Va. — Police in Logan County arrested a woman Friday after she allegedly broke into four residences near the community of Hewett.

A deputy found Joanie Sturgell, 35, inside the fourth residence on Isom Branch Road.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, “Each residence Ms. Sturgell entered, she began screaming people were trying to kill her.”

Once under arrest, Sturgell began kicking the windows of the deputy’s cruiser. She eventually kicked out a brake light, deputies said.

Sturgell is charged with disorderly conduct, burglary destruction of property and public intoxication. She’s lodged in the Southwestern Regional Jail.
