COVID case numbers updated for first time since last week

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases are dropping toward the 2,000 mark in updated numbers released Tuesday by the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

It’s the first update to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard since last Thursday because of state holidays observed on Friday and Monday.

The state added only 245 new cases over the four days with active cases now at 2,083. The DHHR did confirm seven new deaths in Tuesday’s reporting including a 73-year old male from Wyoming County, a 44-year old male from Kanawha County, an 84-year old female from Raleigh County, a 62-year old male from Berkeley County, a 78-year old female from Jefferson County, a 76-year old female from Harrison County, and a 76-year old male from Raleigh County.

Total deaths are now at 2,870.

New vaccination numbers from the Centers for Disease Control show those 12 and older who have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 has increased to 62.4% while 51.8% of that age group have been fully vaccinated.

Hospitalizations have increased slightly to 100.
