CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There have been 170 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia in the past two days taking active cases back over the 1,000 mark.
Officially, according to the state Department of Health and Human Resources, active cases are now at 1,026, a net increase of 27 cases during the past week. Active cases went as low as 882 before the number began to rise.
The state confirmed two additional deaths in Friday’s report including an 86-year old female from Barbour County and a 71-year old male from Greenbrier County.
Hospitalizations have leveled out at 80 over the past few days.
There are now 67% of state residents over the age of 12 who have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while just 55.6% of those 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. The lower vaccination numbers are among those under the age of 35.
