UPDATE: I-77 in Mercer County reopens after crash

11 a.m. Friday  Both northbound lanes of I-77 in Mercer County have reopened.

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Traffic was backed up for several miles Friday morning following a wreck and fuel spill involving a tractor trailer and passenger vehicle northbound on Interstate 77 in Mercer County.

The wreck happened at about 7 a.m. at the 5 mile marker in the northbound lane between Princeton and Bluefield.

Authorities said a lot of fuel leaked from the tractor trailer A clean-up is underway.

Northbound traffic between the East River Mountain Tunnel and the wreck is stuck. Motorists on the other side of the Bluefield exit have the option of taking U.S. Route 52 through Bluefield and then to Princeton where they can reenter I-77.

There was no immediate word on how long I-77 would be closed.
