Murder trial of Parkersburg man starts Monday

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — The trial of a Parkersburg man charged for a June 2019 murder will begin Monday.

The trial for 38-year-old Chester Lilly has already been moved twice. He is accused of murdering 40-year-old Travis Shane Peters.

Parkersburg police officers found Peters lying in the grass near his Avery Street residence, in which he was unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. Authorities named Lilly as a suspect because of video surveillance, and Lilly turned himself in shortly afterward.

A mistrial was declared in October 2020. A second trial was supposed to begin last April, but the start was delayed after Lilly was exposed to the coronavirus.
