MADISON, W.Va. — Investigators in the Boone County Sheriff’s Department have made progress, but say they are yet to make any determinations or conclusions on what happened to a woman found dead along a remote creek Friday afternoon.
The body of Devine Jackson, 31, of Danville, was found in the Quinland area early on the afternoon of August 13th
“She was discovered by some people passing by. She was over an embankment by a small creek and she was in the water,” said Boone County Sheriff Chad Barker.
Initially the death was reported as a drowning, but Barker said at this point the cause of death has not been determined. Investigators are awaiting a lot of work by the medical examiner to determine their next steps in the investigation.
“We’re treating this as suspicious. You only get one chance to do the investigation right, so we’re trying to dot all of our i’s and cross all of our t’s to establish what happened to this young lady,” the sheriff said.
Investigators have been in close contact with Jackson’s relatives and friends and are working to build a timeline on the last hours of her life. So far, Barker said the timeline is incomplete. He’s hoping others who may have information pertaining to the investigation will come forward and share it with authorities.
