CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations due to the virus both rose in the latest report from the state Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) on Tuesday.
The DHHR confirmed 10,980 active cases, the most since over 11,000 on February 14, 2021. 785 new cases were added on Tuesday in the past 24 hours.
Hospitalizations due to the virus are now at 491, the most since over 500 on January 28, 2021. There are currently 169 of those patients being treated in intensive care.
The DHHR reported one death on Tuesday, a 42-year old male from Berkeley County. The statewide death total due to COVID-19 is 3,017.
“Each life lost to this disease is a tragedy,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary in a release. “We send our sympathy to this family and encourage all West Virginians ages 12 and older to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine.”
The DHHR lists confirmed Delta variant cases statewide at 470.
The dashboard says 57.9% of West Virginians 12 and older have been fully vaccinated the same percentage as Monday.
