DHHR updates COVID-19 case numbers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases moved to 21,752 in Tuesday’s report from the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

The agency confirmed 1,008 new cases in the past 24 hours. Hospitalizations remain at 709 on the DHHR’s dashboard by an update provided to MetroNews by the West Virginia Hospital Association puts hospitalizations at 756 patients with 247 patients in ICU and 132 of them being treated on ventilators.

The previous pick for hospitalizations was 818 patients in early January.

Three deaths were added Tuesday including a 65-year old male from Harrison County, a 44-year old male from Logan County, and a 66-year old female from Kanawha County.

“Every life lost to this pandemic is a tragedy and our thoughts go out to the families,” state DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch said. “Please protect yourself and your family by getting vaccinated.”

Thirty-nine of the state’s 55 counties are in the ‘red’ high-spread category.

Latest information shows 59% of the state’s 12 and older population have been fully vaccinated.
