PSC will hold hearings on coal plants later this month

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Public Service Commission of West Virginia will hold a public comment hearing later this month on a reopened case related to three coal-fired power plants.

The commission reopened the case involving the Amos, Mountaineer and Mitchell coal-fired generating plants on Sept. 9. Commissioners in August previously granted Appalachian Power Company and Wheeling Power Company a certificate of convenience and necessity for making modifications to have the plants comply under federal environmental regulations.

West Virginia Citizen Action Group, Solar United Neighbors and Energy Efficient West Virginia — who are intervening in the case — filed the request for a public comment hearing.

The public comment hearing will happen on Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the commission’s Charleston office. The commission will also hold an evidentiary hearing at 9:30 a.m.
