CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s two newest U.S. Attorneys took their oaths of office this week.
William Ihlenfeld on Tuesday was sworn in as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia, which has offices in Wheeling, Martinsburg, Clarksburg and Elkins. Ihlenfeld previously served as U.S. Attorney from 2010 until 2016.
William Thompson took the oath of office on Wednesday to become the U.S. Attorney for West Virginia’s Southern District, which has offices in Charleston, Huntington and Beckley. Thompson served as a circuit court judge in West Virginia’s 25th Judicial Circuit for more than a decade. He resigned in August after President Joe Biden nominated him for the position.
The U.S. Senate confirmed the nominations on Oct. 5.
