MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Senior midfielder Isabella Sibley scored a pair of second half goals as No. 21 West Virginia blanked Texas Tech 2-0 Sunday afternoon.
Sibley scored off an assist from Maya McCutcheon in the 71st minute and secured the victory in the final minute following up a rebound from a shot by McCutcheon. Sibley now stands second on the WVU roster with four goals on the season.
“This is a senior moment when somebody like Sibley really wanted to make sure that we got the win today,” said WVU head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “I was so proud of Sibley and what kind of leadership she brought. We needed that win. I thought we had so many chances and that was the same thing on Thursday [vs. TCU].”
The Mountaineers outshot the Red Raiders (10-4-2, 3-3-1 Big 12) 14-8 and led 7-3 in shots on goal. Kayza Massey made three saves in the Mountaineer net to collect her fifth shutout of the season.
West Virginia (9-4-2, 3-2-1 Big 12) will play their final two road matches of the regular season next weekend. The Mountaineers will visit Texas on Thursday and Baylor on Sunday.
