CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Total active coronavirus cases in West Virginia continued a decline in the state Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) report Tuesday.
The DHHR confirmed 8,535 active cases in the report, the lowest total since just over 8,100 on August 18. The total number of active cases sat at 29,744 on Sept. 16.
The DHHR did report 11 additional deaths Tuesday including a 64-year old male from Wood County, a 50-year old male from Kanawha County, a 41-year old female from Kanawha County, a 32-year old male from Wood County, a 74-year old male from Kanawha County, a 75-year old male from Kanawha County, a 54-year old female from Wayne County, a 74-year old male from Cabell County, a 46-year old female from Hancock County, an 82-year old female from Putnam County, and a 62-year old female from Putnam County.
Overall COVID-19 deaths are at 4,145.
“It is with great sadness that we announce more lives lost to this pandemic and extend our sympathies to these families,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary in a release. “COVID vaccines are still widely available as well as boosters to those eligible.”
According to the DHHR, 1.7% of fully vaccinated residents have developed COVID in breakthrough cases. There have been 219 deaths in breakthrough cases.
