Upshur County man admits to carjacking attempt, brandishing gun

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — An Upshur County man has entered a guilty plea related to a March incident involving a carjacking attempt.

Chad C. Newcome, 40, of Rock Cave admitted to trying to steal a 2018 Dodge Ram Truck while brandishing a 12-gauge shotgun.

Newcome pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and a count of use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia, Newcome faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for the carjacking charge and at least seven years behind bars and a fine of up to $250,000 for the use of firearm charge.
