Roundup: University, Hoover finish off unbeaten regular seasons; Beckley wins to reach playoffs for first time since 2014

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Check out news and notes from around West Virginia in the 11th and final week of the regular season.

Class AAA

UNIVERSITY 63, Oak Hill 21: Playing in place of starting quarterback Chase Edwards, Luke Hudson threw five touchdown passes, allowing the Hawks to wrap up an unbeaten regular season.

UHS (10-0) got two touchdown receptions from both Jaeden Hammack and Sage Clawges, while Elija Jackson hauled in a 55-yard pass for Hudson’s other passing TD.

Leonard Farrow had touchdown runs of 40 and 80 yards for the Red Devils, who finished 3-7.

GREENBRIER EAST 61, Lincoln County 22: Monquelle Davis rushed for three touchdowns and threw for a score, while Ian Cline added 196 rushing yards and three scores on the ground to help the Spartans finish the regular season 8-2.

PARKERSBURG SOUTH 44, Princeton 34: Robert Shockey accounted for 406 yards of total offense with six total touchdowns as the Patriots secured a playoff spot with their fifth victory. Grant Cochran passed for 430 yards and four touchdowns for the Tigers.

PSHS improved to 5-5, while Princeton fell to 5-3.

WOODROW WILSON 42, South Charleston 21: The Flying Eagles picked up their first road win since 2019.

Tylai Kimble rushed for a touchdown and returned an interception for a score to help Beckley earn a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2014.

JEFFERSON 47, Washington 13: Cougars’ quarterback Sammy Roberts passed for 425 yards and four scores.

Isaiah Fritz hauled in three TD catches and had 176 receiving yards in the win as Jefferson finished the regular season 9-1.

Note: Huntington topped Riverside 49-7 and the Highlanders join UHS and Bridgeport as 10-0 teams in Class AAA.

Class AA

HERBERT HOOVER 48, Logan 6: The Patriots secured their first 10-0 season since 1977 with a resounding win over the Wildcats.

Devin Hatfield scored on a punt return and interception return in the victory.

NICHOLAS COUNTY 54, PikeView 14: Caleb Clark rushed for 190 yards and four touchdowns and the Grizzlies improved to 8-2.

ROBERT C. BYRD 57, Philip Barbour 6: Jeremiah King rushed for 211 yards and five touchdowns and the Eagles wrapped up the regular season on a high note to improve to 6-3.

ROANE COUNTY 58, Sissonville 40: Behind 233 rushing yards and six touchdowns from Briar Begler, the Radiers outlasted the Indians.

Skylar Delk added 115 yards and a pair of scores on the ground for Roane (8-2), helping the Raiders overcome 152 rushing yards and two TDs from Sissonville’s Cameron Arbogast.

WAYNE 26, Poca 20: The Pioneers finished off a 70-yard touchdown drive with less than 1 minute remaining to prevail against the Dots.

Wayne finished 3-7 and handed the Dots a second straight setback as they fell to 7-2.

SCOTT 22, Nitro 18: Christian Cooper’s rushing touchdown with 18 seconds remaining allowed the Skyhawks to edge the Wildcats.

Matt Frye threw a touchdown in the win and Landon Stone added a rushing score.

Nitro’s Trevor Lowe threw three touchdown passes.

Class A

DODDRIDGE COUNTY 34, Tygarts Valley 0: Doddridge County’s defense held TVHS to 83 total yards. Dylan Knight scored twice on runs and caught a pass for a TD, while DCHS amassed 470 total yards and improved to 9-1.

MOUNT VIEW 18, Greenbrier West 14: The Golden Knights battled back from a 14-0 deficit to finish the regular season 9-1.

Ryan Long threw two touchdown passes to Jaylen Hall and Thomas Bell added a rushing score, helping Mount View overcome a pair of first-half touchdown runs by the Cavaliers’ Ty Nickell.

EAST HARDY 26, Petersburg 0: The Cougars were dominant defensively and balanced offensively in a convincing win over the Vikings. East Hardy passed for 175 yards and rushed for 161.

Mason Miller threw for one touchdown and rushed for a score, while Dawson Price caught a TD in a victory that allowed the Cougars to improve to 9-1.

WILLIAMSTOWN 53, Magnolia 6: The Yellowjackets intercepted five passes and gained 317 yards offensively to claim a convincing win and improve to 8-2.

CLAY-BATTELLE 58, Hundred 0: Carson Shriver rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns and threw for an additional score. The Cee-Bees limited the Hornets to 45 total yards.

SOUTH HARRISON 36, Tucker County 24: The Hawks finished the contest with 22 unanswered points and improved to 4-6 with the victory in the season finale for both teams.
