First lady unveils 2021 Christmas ornament

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — First lady Cathy Justice unveiled this year’s Christmas ornament during a ceremony Tuesday at the Culture Center.

Beckley artist John DesMeules designed this year’s ornament: a red, green and gold orb with the state of West Virginia sandblasted on the front. A gold star on the state represents Charleston.

“I was honored to be asked to design the First Lady’s Christmas ornament this year. It has been a highlight of my career and I am so thankful for the opportunity,” DesMeules said.

The Culture Center and Tamarack in Beckley are selling the ornaments for $25 each. Only 500 ornaments have been produced, in which proceeds will go toward DesMeules and creating future ornaments.
