Deputies uncover additional information in connection with Kanawha pedestrian death

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies have released more information in connection with a Friday evening pedestrian death north of Charleston.

Authorities said Wheeler Dale Pickens, 50, of Charleston, was run over by two motorists traveling Greenbrier Street in the Miliken area at about 5:30 p.m.

According to deputies, Pickens was arguing with his girlfriend prior to his death. He was hanging onto her car as she tried to leave their neighborhood. Pickens fell off the moving car into Greenbrier Street where he was struck by approaching motorists.

Neither of the drivers saw the body, investigators said.

No charges have been filed. The completed information will be handed over to the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office.
