CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Health and Human Resources is once again using its COVID daily alert map to indicate the rate of spread of the coronavirus.
The map had been offline for several days following changes the federal Centers of Disease Control made in connection with COVID protocols. DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch said the changes forced the state to rework its map.
Wednesday’s map shows 34 of the state’s 55 counties in the red ‘high spread’ category.
Meanwhile the DHHR dashboard update showed active cases are now at 15,906. That’s down from recent days but still about 2,000 more than a week ago.
The DHHR confirmed 3.606 new cases in the past 24 hours along with recording 15 deaths.
The new deaths included a 79-year old male from Cabell County, a 66-year old male from Mercer County, a 77-year old female from Mercer County, an 80-year old male from Cabell County, a 75-year old male from Berkeley County, a 67-year old male from Cabell County, a 57-year old female from Raleigh County, an 80-year old male from Harrison County, a 67-year old female from Mercer County, an 85-year old male from Cabell County, a 94-year old female from Cabell County, a 90-year old male from Berkeley County, a 64-year old female from Raleigh County, and an 86-year old female from Berkeley County.
