Pair of head football coaches named at Kanawha County schools

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The two high school football head coaching vacancies in Kanawha County were officially filled Thursday evening. Carl Lee was approved as the new leader of the South Charleston Black Eagles and Willie Washington was installed as the new head coach at St. Albans. The hirings were approved by the Kanawha County Board of Education.

Lee played eleven seasons at cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings from 1983-1993. He capped his professional career with the New Orleans Saints in 1994. Lee earned Pro Bowl invitations from 1988-1990. Lee was selected by the Vikings in the seventh round of the 1983 NFL Draft.

Lee is a South Charleston High School and Marshall University graduate. Following his retirement from the NFL in 1995, Lee spent a decade as the head coach at West Virginia State University. He replaces Donnie Mays, who recently became the new head coach at MSAC rival Hurricane.

Washington replaces Nick Watts. Watts resigned after four seasons leading the Red Dragons.
