MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — When spring football practice began last Tuesday for West Virginia, Mountaineer head coach Neal Brown made it known his team would add a linebacker via the NCAA Transfer Portal.
That came to fruition Monday when North Dakota State transfer Jasir Cox committed to West Virginia.

Cox, who saw extensive action over four seasons with the Bison, has one season of eligibility remaining.
Cox was the third-leading tackler at NDSU each of the last two seasons. In 2021, he was in on 58 stops with three tackles for loss. Cox had 1.5 sacks and intercepted three passes to go with one fumble forced.
During the 2020 season, Cox registered 52 tackles with one sack over 10 games.
The Bison won three FCS National Championships over the four seasons Cox was with the program.
Cox entered the transfer portal in February. He is a native of Kansas City, Missouri.
According to Pro Football Focus, 433 of Cox’s 681 snaps on defense last season were as a slot corner.
Jasir’s older brother, Jabril, also played at NDSU before transferring to LSU. Jabril was a fourth-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys a year ago.
Linebacker is an area of need for the Mountaineers following the departure of Josh Chandler-Semedo. He was the team’s leading tackler in 2021.
