CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission on Tuesday released the names of 19 applicants for a vacant position on the West Virginia Intermediate Court of Appeals.
The applicants submitted their names after Wheeling lawyer Don Nickerson withdrew himself from serving on the body. Nickerson would have served a term that goes through 2028, in which West Virginians would then be allowed to vote for the next judge in the 2028 election. Nickerson would have been sworn in May 1.
The applicants for the open seat had submitted their applications to the advisory commission by the April 15 deadline:

— Robert Frank.
— Jace Goins.
— Edward Ryan Kennedy.
— Chanin Krivonyak.
— Charles Lorensen.
— Parween Sultany Mascari.
— Elgine McArdle.
— James Rowe.
— Mychal Sommer Schulz.
— Debra Scudiere.
— Martin Sheehan.
— Mark Sorsaia.
— Darren Tallman.
— Harry Taylor.
— Gregory Tucker.
— Rusty Webb.
The advisory commission will conduct interviews with the candidates this week.
Gov. Jim Justice previously appointed attorneys Dan Greear of South Charleston and Thomas Scarr of Barboursville. The Intermediate Court of Appeals will begin its duties by July 1.
