BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Aidan Paulsen’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh propelled No. 3 Bridgeport over No. 10 Washington, 6-5 in the opening game of the Connect Bridgeport Invitational.
With the game tied at 5 entering the bottom of the seventh, Ben McDougal led off the frame with a double. Paulsen followed that up with a line drive off the wall in left to score pinch-runner Ryan Hall with the game-winning run.
The Indians jumped on the scoreboard quickly with a four-run first inning. However, the Patriots drew even with single runs in the second and fifth innings and two more in the third.
Tied at 4 in the bottom of the fifth, Christopher Harbert put the Indians back on top with a solo home run. Washington responded in the sixth inning. An infield RBI single from Cameron Moore scored Brayden Stottlemyer to tie the game back up.
Cam Cole earned the win in relief for the Indians. He allowed two runs in four innings. Cole, Paulsen, Harbert and Phil Reed each had multi-hit games for Bridgeport. Harbert and Reed each drove in a pair of runs.
Ryan McCarthy had three hits for the Patriots (10-7). Collin Reed drove in two runs.
Bridgeport (20-4) also defeated Grafton earlier in the day, 10-6.
