Greear, other ICA judges sworn-in to new court

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — All three members of the state’s new Intermediate Court of Appeals have taken their oaths and will be be ready for the new court to begin its work July 1.

ICA Judges Dan Greear and Charles Lorensen were sworn-in Friday at the state Supreme Court Friday. Judge Tom Scarr was sworn-in earlier this week in a private ceremony in Huntington.

Greear, the former counsel to House of Delegates Speaker Roger Hanshaw, was sworn-in during a Friday afternoon ceremony before family, friends and colleagues. State Supreme Court Tim Armstead administered the oath of office.

Greear, a former Kanawha County Circuit Judge, said the new court must work hard, apply the rule of law and stay in its lane.

West Virginia’s Legislature voted to establish the intermediate court last year. The judges will hear appeals of civil cases, appeals from family courts (except domestic violence cases), appeals from state agencies or administrative law judges, and Workers Comp appeals.
