SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Hours after suffering an extra-inning loss to Jefferson, John Marshall avoided another one by beating St. Albans 5-4 in eight innings at Craft Field.

The Monarchs (22-9) held an early 4-0 lead, but the Red Dragons (24-7) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extras.

Ryleigh Morgan’s RBI double in the top of the eighth allowed JMHS to go back in front and the Monarchs held on. They’ll play again at 9:30 a.m. Thursday against Lincoln County, with the winner then needing to beat Jefferson twice for the Class AAA championship.
