MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia Class of 2023 stands at eleven student-athletes after Saturday’s verbal commitment from defensive lineman Justin Benton. The 6-foot-2, 275-pound lineman is a native of Covington, Georgia.

Benton played at Newton High School in 2019 and 2020. In his two seasons at Newton, Benton racked up 164 tackles [41.5 for loss]. He had 22.5 sacks and forced six fumbles. In 2020, Benton was named to the MaxPreps Sophomore All-America first team. Benton played his junior season at IMG Academy.
West Virginia extended a scholarship offer to Benton on April 28, 2020. Benton has received over two dozen offers, including: Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, UCF, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Houston, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Miami-FL, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, USC, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.
Benton is the third defensive lineman to commit to WVU’s Class of 2023. He joins Cam Jackson and Eamon Smalls.
