West Virginia was picked sixth in last year’s preseason poll and ended up finishing tied for fifth with a 4-5 record in league play.
Baylor is the odds on favorite to defend their conference championship. The Bears received 17 of the 41 first-place votes. Baylor finished 11 points ahead of Oklahoma in the voting.
2021 Big 12 runner-up Oklahoma State, Texas and Kansas State complete the top five. Iowa State, TCU, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Kansas are sixth through tenth, respectively.
On Wednesday, four Mountaineers were selected to the All-Big 12 preseason team. The annual Big 12 Conference media days begin Wednesday, July 13 in Dallas.
