CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia surpassed 3,000 Friday as the BA.5 subvariant continues to spread nationwide.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported 3,002 active cases and three new deaths in its latest report.
The agency confirmed the deaths of an 83-year old female from Marion County, a 95-year old male from Kanawha County, and a 91-year old female from Cabell County.
A total of 7,102 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19.
As of Friday morning, hospitalizations remained at 330 patients.
