MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Trey Braithwaite made the most of his lone season in a Mountaineer uniform. The fifth-year senior was selected by the Cincinnati Reds on the final day of the MLB Draft. Braithwaite was picked in the 16th round with the 483rd selection.

Braithwaite transferred to WVU from Navy for the 2022 season. He posted a 3-0 record out of the bullpen with a 1.70 ERA. He struck out 36 batters in 37 innings of work and opposing batters hit just .151 against him. Braithwaite led the team with eight saves. He was named to the All-Big 12 First Team and earned NCBWA All-America Third Team honors.
Also on Tuesday, WVU signee Gavin Van Kempen was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 20th round. The right-handed pitcher was taken with the 607th selection.
On Monday, pitcher Jacob Watters was picked by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round and outfielder Victor Scott was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fifth round.
