Former Fairmont police chief dies

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Longtime former Fairmont police officer and former chief Eddie Devito has died.

          Eddie Devito

Devito, who died this week at the age of 94,  joined the Fairmont Police Department in 1958 and as part of his job photographed crime scenes and developed the images in a darkroom at his home.

Devito was noted for solving the 1974 Windmill Park triple murder and served on the drug task force units until 1987 when he was named police chief. He held the position until 1991.

The family asks for memorial donations in Devito’s name for the John Manchin’s Senior Health Care Center Resident Council Fund at 401 Guffey Street in Fairmont.
