1 dead in McDowell County officer involved shooting

THREE FORKS, W.Va. — One person is dead following an officer involved shooting in McDowell County Saturday night.

McDowell County Sheriff James Muncy said at around 6 p.m. deputies responded to a 911 call of an unwanted person with a firearm in the Three Forks area.

Once deputies arrived on scene, Muncy said the person started making threats and began shooting at deputies. Deputies returned fire and shot the person who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputies, who have not been named, are currently on paid leave pending an investigation.

State Police are investigating the shooting.
