MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — After one season leading the football program at his alma mater, Carl Lee has stepped down as South Charleston’s head coach. Lee released the following statement Thursday evening:
Today I have decided to remove myself from the position of head football coach of the South Charleston Black Eagles.
I hold the utmost respect for South Charleston High School, its Administration, Teachers, Coaches, My Football Staff and the young men and their parents who played for me.
I must step away from my role as the head football coach because I have opportunities that I am unable to achieve in my current role as a head football coach.
I have spoken with Ms. Williams and Mr. Casto about my decision and the reasoning behind it and with their support, I will resign from my role immediately.
I thank everyone who supported me and I wish all the young men that I may have touched to please continue to strive for greatness and do not settle for good!
Good Luck Black Eagles!!!!!!!!
Thank You
Carl Lee
Lee played 11 seasons in the National Football League, earning three Pro Bowl selections and All-Pro status in 1988 as a defensive back for the Minnesota Vikings.
The Black Eagles went 1-9 in 2022.
