Troopers: Driver impairment suspected in Boone County fatal

MADISON, W.Va. — State police said a Kanawha County man was driving north in a southbound lane in Boone County Friday night, causing a head-on crash that claimed a woman’s life.

Troopers said Kenneth Spears, 38, of Charleston, was driving the wrong way on state Route 85 near Madison at around 9;30 p.m, when his vehicle hit an oncoming vehicle being driven by Colin Holstein, 42, of Alum Creek.

Troopers said a passenger in Spears’ vehicle, Linzy Nicole Spears, 34, of Charleston, died at the scene. The two drivers were hospitalized.

Troopers said driver impairment was suspected. An investigation continues.
