Knowles says he’ll be a candidate for Martinsburg mayor in 2024

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Mayor Kevin Knowles plans to run for that position in the next election.

“I will be running for mayor in 2024, there’s no doubt in my mind about that,” Knowles said during an appearance Friday on WEPM Radio’s Panhandle Live.

Knowles was appointed by Martinsburg City Council in 2021 to fill the unexpired term after the death of Mayor Harriett Johnson.

Knowles talked to MetroNews after Johnson’s 2021 death.

Knowles said at the time of Johnson’s death that she was proud of her city before becoming mayor and that pride swelled during her year on the job.

“She would speak highly of everything on in our downtown area and the businesses in the Main Street district,” Knowles said.
