State Police arrest Ohio man for drugs following I-77 pursuit

MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. — An Ohio man faces drug charges following a police pursuit along I-77 in Wood County.

State Police arrested Gary Bland Jr., 33, of Akron, Ohio, following the pursuit near Mineral Wells just after 3 p.m. Saturday. Bland was being pursued for a stolen Ohio registration displayed on his vehicle.

Troopers said Bland fled at speeds of 108mph, almost striking other vehicles. He eventually stopped and was handcuffed.

During his arrest, Bland told police he had ingested fentanyl. He was then taken to Camden Clark Medical Center.

Police said a number of oxycodone pills and other drug contraband was located inside the suspect vehicle.

No one was hurt and no vehicles were damaged in the pursuit.

Bland will be charged with fleeing with reckless indifference and possession with intent to deliver after he’s released from the hospital.
