St. Marys scores five unanswered runs, keeps season alive with 7-4 win over Greenbrier West

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va.Highlights from St. Marys’ 7-4 win over Greenbrier West in a Class A elimination game. The Blue Devils will face Petersburg in another elimination game Thursday at 9:45 a.m.

 

St. Marys (29-5) scored the first two and the final five runs to extend their season. The Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Zoe Winland and Cali Masters scored on a throwing error.

Greenbrier West (23-4) answered with three runs in the second inning to take their first lead of the game. RBIs from Michaela Alley, Julia Herndon and Hannah Sweet gave the Cavaliers a 3-2 lead. They added another run in the third inning, courtesy of an RBI single from Brooklyn Adkins.

However, St. Marys scored two runs in the third, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a lead they would not relinquish. Ava Childers had a two-run double in the third and Cali Masters added a two-run single in the sixth.

Masters struck out six batters in two innings of relief for St. Marys.
