Stepfather to child charged with arson has been charged with child abuse

ELIZABETH, W.Va. — After arresting a seven year old child and charging them with arson, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department announced that the child’s stepfather is also facing charges.

Aaron Hufford, 38, of Sandyville, was arrested and charged for child abuse Thursday, May 25, for allegedly abusing the child.

Deputies said the child is accused of setting the home on fire before noon Wednesday. The residence sits on Providence Road in Elizabeth.

The parents were allegedly sleeping inside the home when it was set on fire, according to investigators.

Two people were reported with minor burns from the fire, but everyone was able to make it out safely without suffering more major injuries.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal said the home was a total loss.
